GME vs. ABS, once and for all

Every time I visit starmometer.com, or pep.ph, or even pass through GME channel when looking for a show to watch, I always come by people saying GME is number one. That GME is “nangunguna”. That GME stars are the hottest or the biggest. And that GME is the best TV station in the country.

And I would be pissed big time.

 

For everybody’s sake, the possibility that GME is really the number one or the best station in the country is as high as the probability of Jinky Pacquiao becoming the First Lady of the Philippines. It will only be possible when stupidity and ignorance sweeps over the entire Philippines. And I would rather leave before that happens. (Love you Pacman, how bout a million? No.)

Okay, so let’s try to be objective.

If GME is number one, why is it that all of their movies are flops? They say mega block-buster, “nangunguna”, “pinagkakaguluhan”, “pinipilahan”, “movie of the year” when a movie of theirs reaches the 50 million mark. How naïve.

ABS-CBN says mega-block buster when the movie reaches the 100 million mark. Did GMA ever reach 100 million? No. Never. Even their God and Goddess, Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes’ One True Love was a flop. One True Flop.

If GME is number one, why are their artists not able to hold as big concerts as the ones in ABS? Fine. Regine and Ogie can fill Araneta. But Sarah can do that too. And Sharon, Gary V. Martin Nievera, Piolo and Sam, and the list goes on. How ‘bout other stars from GME aside from Regine and Ogie, can they do that too? No.

If GME is number one, why can’t their stars tour abroad as frequently and as successfully as ABS stars? Oh, there was one time I watched SOPe and they said the “La Diba?” are so popular now that they will have a concert in the US. The following week, I watched SOPe again and they said the “La Diba?” concert is postponed and the public will be notified when it will be held. Until now, there’s no news. Like people are so excited about that. Haha.

For better comparison, let’s compare the biggest stars of each network. Big as in big in movies, commercials, popularity and longevity (marian, u still there?).

GME: Robin, Regine, Ogie, Dingdong, Marian, Richard Gutierrez and Gomez, Bitoy, .. who else?

ABS: Sharon, Dolphy, Ai-Ai, Maricel, Judy Ann, Angel, Sarah, Piolo, Sam, John Lloyd, Jericho, Willie, Pokwang, Claudine, Toni, Bea, Kristine, Edu, and many others. Seriously, is Marian Rivera even comparable to ones above? Especially when considering longevity?

See, ABS stars are known by far more Filipinos. From abroad to far-flung places. And they stay big after several years. As for the others, good luck.

Let’s talk about ratings. True, GME shows dominate the Metro Manila ratings but ABS shows manage to be at the top sometimes and GME very rarely monopolizes the Top5. However in the Nationwide ratings, GME has never tasted number one in primetime. The top 5 spots are always ruled by ABS. Check the latest rating in pep.ph for proof.

Truly, GME is Number One, “nangunguna”, and “hindi mapantayan”, but only in the slums in Metro Manila and maybe in their own little world. As for ruling the entire Philippines? No deal.

Why would an educated family or even a sensible individual watch shows that are centered on violence and sex? Unless of course all they care about is violence and sex. Disgusting.

Just look at GME’s primetime line-up. Ridiculous. Ting! Ting! Fantasy is so over. So 2006. Move on people.

They’re so proud of being “heart-y” but you won’t see any heart in their shows. Boobs maybe, but heart? No.
