What’s up Philippines?

June 14, 2009

Tony Blair said, “A simple way to take the measure of a country is to look at how many want out and how many want in.”

Now, isn’t it almost every Filipino’s dream to go abroad?

The people in government should be thinking about this. That is, if they’re not too busy counting their money. Come on now people.

Is the Philippines always going to be like this? Will the Philippine government officials keep on focusing on making themselves richer? Will the government continue ignoring the obvious problems of poverty, deteriorating education and dying health system? Will the senate continue focusing on petty, stupid issues affecting only  a few people? Will the House of Representatives continue representing only themselves and their gods and continue to pass bills that will benefit only themselves and their gods?

If one island in the Philippines will be submerged for every undeserving politician in office, we will all be drowned by now. Except of course for those politicians who have their private planes. Congratulations.

I think we need a government makeover. And by this I mean people not the constitution Mr. Congressman. Now where can we find good leaders? Are they all rotting somewhere because they were killed for being good and fighting for the people? Maybe.

Sigh. I wish this was just basketball (Go Orlando!). So we could import players. Could we import leaders? Ones who are smart, independent and rich enough to be uninterested in corruption? Possibly. What do you think?

Anyway, for now, considering everything that’s happening, I want out. Honestly.

Matatalino naman ang ating mga politiko. Ang gagaling mag-Ingles, ang huhusay makipagdebate. Moralidad lang talaga, karakter, at tunay na pagmamalasakit sa bayan ang kulang. Tsk, tsk.
