You got a pimple? Gross! Get Lost!

Have you seen that cosmetic commercial where a cute girl is walking and suddenly drops something and a guy picks it up for her but when the girl fixed her hair, the guy saw a pimple and looked so disgusted? (Grammar police please spare me!)

I am more disgusted than that guy. Not because of the girl’s pimple but of the fact that cosmetic companies are making their Filipino audience shallow and stupid.

 

That commercial is telling Filipinos that girls with pimples are horrible. That a person has to be pimple-free in order to attract the opposite sex. That people only look at physical appearance to see the value of a person. That if you have a pimple, you have to get rid of it at once by buying their overpriced product in order for you to get a social life.

 

The people behind that commercial may not have exactly the same things in mind but people see things from different angles and react in different ways. Sure, some may just ignore it but still some, especially the young and immature audience will be affected. I just hope people won’t be too carried away by such petty commercials.

 

Pimples or any physical deformity for that matter should not alter our respect or liking of a person.

 

By the way, a friend once gave me a medicine for pimples because he said they looked terrible on my face (I was annoyed). But after trying it, I was really thankful because it was effective. It dries up a pimple overnight. Problem is, it has a complicated name and I forgot where I placed that last packet.
