Bathroom Rockstars

June 20, 2009

Having lived in several boarding houses and having shared bathrooms with several other people, I have heard my fair share of bathroom concerts. Believe me, I have heard even the most cold and dead quiet people sing their hearts (and throats) out in the bathroom.

Is it the sense of isolation and privacy that the walls of the bathroom gives them that makes them more confident and brave to voice out their, well, voices? Or is it the buffering sound of the running water that makes them feel as if nobody else is listening?

Or was man genetically designed to sing the shower? I don’t know.

What I know is, I’m not one of those people. I rarely sing (to the great delight of people who know me). I only do during especially fly times. I don’t really have a good singing voice. Heck, I may not even have a good voice.

Lately however, I’ve been singing “no Boundaries” by Kris Allen, “The Story” by Brandi Carlile, “voice of Truth” of Casting Crows, “Permanent” by David Cook, “You’re Eyes Don’t Lie” by David Archuleta, and even Mariah Carrey’s “Love Story”. Of course, only in the presence and within the hearing range of nobody else.

Much has been said. As for those bathroom concerts, I think I’d rather be a happy audience.
