Kiddie Books, Seasons and Wisdom

June 21, 2009

A while ago, I read a little book entitled “What’s the Season” which was part of a series of Time (Magazine) for kids.

It read:

In summer, it is hot. We go to the beach or pool.

In fall, it is cool. We rake the leaves that drop from the trees.

In winter, it is cold. We wear warm clothes and play in the snow.

In spring, it is rainy. We use umbrellas to stay dry.

The sun shines in every season. Rain may fall in every season.

So naïve.

But if ever I’ll get the chance to live in or visit a place with these four seasons (we in the Philippines only have two: dry and wet), here’s what I would do.

In summer, it is hot. I would really go to the beach or pool. I love swimming.

In fall, it is cool. I would stroll in parks and watch the autumn foliage. I would toss fallen leaves in the air like a kid and would eat pumpkin pie (like an adult) after. And I would take a lot of pictures with the colorful leaves at the background.

In winter, it is cold. I would get out and watch the snow fall, make a snow ball, and make a snow angel and even a snow man! I would enjoy every bit of the snow. I would even taste some. And of course, I would take more photos.

In spring, it is rainy. I would play in the rain and feel as if I was in a scene from the Twilight movie. Haha. No, I’m not a fan. I’ll just sit by the window with some coffee and cookies.

Sigh. I hope I won’t do those things alone.

The last two sentences from the book are actually full of wisdom.

“The sun shines in every season. Rain may fall in every season.”

It means there will be no perfect season, year, day or even life. There will always be a rainy day in summer but there will always be a sunny day after a long rain. A day may be full of sad or disappointing events but it will never end without a laugh or a smile. Think positive.
