Just a while ago, I was a able to catch one episode of the Tyra Banks show featuring past episodes about RACISM. Now, this is a topic that really interests me. I mean, how could people judge and respond to others based only on skin color and race? That’s bloody stupid (forgive the trying-hard British tone).
One of the featured people was a woman who bleaches not only herself but also her three young sons. Her reason? She didn’t want her and her sons to be discriminated and to be treated unfairly because of their skin color. That was outrageous. If one woman would risk her and her sons’ health just to avoid discrimination, then there must be a serious problem.
Another girl was also controversial because she posted photos of her with a racist flag on the background. That flag was the one made by people who wanted to burn Black people. And the girl was black. Take that. She is actually a biracial (with Black and White parents) but she chooses to be white. She dislikes black people because to her they are a lower form of beings. Whites are more respectable and deserve better treatment. She is even afraid of people with her own skin color!
Why are there people like this? It’s already 2009. We are not in the dark ages. We must at least accept the fact that the human race IS the ONLY race.
And it doesn’t stop at skin color. Millions of Muslims, and Arabs of other religions, are being discriminated worldwide because they might be TERRORISTS. How unfair is that? There are Muslim women in the US who are not offered service in restaurants just because they look “harmful”. Even in the Philippines, people laugh at Muslims. Many think they are members of some rebellious groups who bomb places and kill people without remorse.
And then there are people who discriminate against “probinsyanos” or people from rural areas. They call them ignorant, stupid, and even worse, monkeys.
What’s the problem? Is it someone’s fault if he or she was born with a dark skin color? Is it a sin to be born in the Middle East and look like those terrorists on TV? Is it one’s choice to be born in far-flung places?
NO! And we better stop looking at people that way.
There is so much more in people than skin color, nationality, or hometown. What about personality? What about kindness? What about intellect? Should we disregard all of these and focus on stupid personal or racial boundaries?
It’s a shame that there are still racist in our time. People who think like that must be fixated and are still living in the 1800s.
Move on people. Let this stupid human craziness stop at us. Racism is lame, inhuman, and in many ways, painful.
You know, they say that the worse people who discriminates people are Filipinos. Nagdidiscriminate ng sariling lahi. And kahit ibang lahi, niloloko, sa TV, sa kalsada.
Yung tipong biro sa mga Chinese na “beho” and trying to speak in Chinese and laugh, discrimination na yun. And then ginagaya pa yung “Ala eh” ng kamampangan, kapampangan nga ba??
I as a chinese, when I hear someone na laughing at “ala eh” and yung mga movies na patawa regarding “ala eh”, natatawa ako. Nakakatawa ang Pinoy.
Sorry, bad trip lang sa mga nang aasar sa akin sa kalsada hehe
